Strain Report – D-Shaze
D-Shaze is a cross between Super Silver Haze, White Shark, and Diesel (aka Chem Dog 91). The exact mother and fathers are not known, but the strain is a solid yielder, very resilient, and tastes and smells unlike any strain you’ve ever known.
How is it grown?
D-Shaze is an 8-10 week strain depending on conditions. In our test batch only one phenotype was identified. It grows tall and long with large spaces between nodes, similar to the Chem Dog heritage. The plant responds well to topping and produces as many as 6 or 7 tops if you top it right. As well, the plant responds very well to thinning as it is a leafy and bulky strain. If thinned and topped right, the plant will develop very heavy buds and will require support. Feed, water, and light as usual. Flush D-Shaze for two and a half to three weeks, after you last feeding at 7 weeks. Dry and cure as usual, but take care to watch the smell. D-Shaze should have a very pungent and “sour”, or “acidic” smell. When it is cured properly, and opened jar will have a piney and peppery smell, almost like a spicy mustard.
Distinguishing Characteristics?
Other than the odor and the dense weight, the most distinguishing thing about D-Shaze is it’s extremely pod-like, large nugs that grow a final layer of “pods” or “spires” in the 10th week. Don’t worry, they aren’t male flowers, or seed pods. They are just a crazy brand of nuggy buddiness that hasn’t been witnessed much before. Imagine a bud with large calyxes, similar to Sour Diesel, but with the density of an Indica. It really is the best of both worlds. As well, these characteristics provide the Shaze with a level of bag stamina not found in many strains. Lastly, the strain is particularly resilient, resisting molds, mildews, and mites rather well.
Finishing Moves
Shay-Dee has plenty of amazing flavor to take advantage of, so don’t cut any corners in the flush or the dry, and definitely don’t pull it prematurely. The white hairs will make your finished bud appear younger than it really is. You can cut off the outer layer of pods (the ones with the white hairs) during your trim if this happens, but they are good bud, and dry up nice and tight if they can be left.
The Bottom Line
The D-Shaze is an above-average yielder. Expect 2-4 ounces per 1-2 sq ft. of canopy, depending on how green your thumb is. If you come across D-Shaze, give it a whirl if you are looking to try something new and are looking for some Sour-Diesel-ish bud that is dense, gooey, and the definition of “chronic”. Remember, always grow organic for the best in flavor and aroma.
